We Feed People
+ Keep Our Community Working.

Covid 19 brought us together to help provide food for those without enough food, and continued employment for those struggling in the food industry.

This is an urgent effort that will remain in place for the duration of the immediate crisis, and possibly far beyond. The need for our work will remain critical for a very. long. time.

The steps are simple:

1) We set up a fund that receives tax deductible contributions from individuals, businesses and foundations. Catholic Charities of Maine acts as our 501c(3) fiscal sponsor, but Cooking for Community is an otherwise independent program.

2) We raise money. Quickly. Hopefully lots of money. We are thinking big. Like, really big. Think about what a huge collective impact we could have! There has never been a more critical time to come together.

3) We use the money to pay local restaurants to cook easy to reheat, packaged meals, using primarily locally sourced ingredients, to be distributed to people in need of nourishment. The unemployed. Low income. Elderly. Immigrants.

In doing so, we create a reinforcing positive feedback loop. Restaurants can pay their employees. Local seafood growers, fishers, and farmers can sell their goods. People and families in need will know where and when they can depend on a free meal, cooked with love from all of us in Maine.  We need everyone to pitch in to this collective grassroots effort!
